A Very Special Happy Birthday

Memorial Day this year did not only provide an extra day off work to catch up on homework and sleep, but it provided a day to celebrate the life of a person very close to me. My boyfriend Brandon is one half of the loves of my life. He is so kind, sweet, and very warm spirited.  He is my advisor, counselor, best friend, chef, spiritual companion, mental, physical and emotional protector and and lover. He is a man after God’s own heart like David. I admire a lot of things about him like his work ethic and his craving to be lead by our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Brandon inspires me and gives me strength in areas that I am weak in. He encouraging me and reminds me often of God’s faithfulness to me. On this day, I was just happy to bask in his presence. I was happy to  listen to his wisdom and to feel the warmth of his hugs and kisses. I wish him wholeness this year as he journeys through the year of breaking out! I  pray that he has peace, prosperity, favor, a mind of victory, the love of myself and his family, revelation knowledge and wisdom, courage, and a ever growing love for Christ.  I feel like I am such a lucky woman to have him in my life. My love, my sweetie, my big stink, my Brandon. ❤

Happy Birthday to my love. Forever my heart you shall hold!

Purposeful YOUth Detroit (PYD) Debutante Ball 2015 #ThrowBack

These were the pictures from last years ball with the Purposeful YOUth Detroit (PYD) organization. The organization is a mentoring organization for girls that improves self esteem and character development. The organization also provides tutoring and supports academic achievement. I believe the youngest girl last year was 4 or 5 and the oldest was 15 or 16. It was a great experience and I am happy that I could celebrate these girls with my daughter!

Purposeful YOUth Detroit (PYD) Debuntante Ball 2016

My niece, daughter and boyfriend had such a great time at the debutante ball.  Lauren and I went last year so it was good that we had the opportunity to experience this type of event again. My friend and Godmother of daughter, Dominique  ( tan dress) is a volunteer of this wonderful organization. It’s funny because came over for dinner maybe a week before and she talked highly of the organization. I could hear the passion in her voice and how dear those girls are to her (she had tears in her eyes). I am happy that she finds enjoyment in the service of others, especially our young girls. We had such a good time and hope that this can become a tradition for my family to continue to attend.

Provision and Protection

It seems like it’s something going on everyday! From Christian persecution in the Middle East to black on black crime, violence is increasing  rapidly. This past mother’s day weekend started off with a series of shootings that didn’t seem to send until Sunday evening. I am well aware that we are living in perilous times as stated in 2nd Timothy 3:1. There is a joke that I often see floating around on social media that compares Detroit to the Purge. Unfortunately I saw the Purge before and was less than thrilled that someone had the audacity to make a comparison between the two. Detroit is know for being a dangerous city so I am also not oblivious to where they got that idea from.

I must admit after reading the news on my phone this morning  I felt very uneasy. I felt the need to pray in the spirit and to thank God for the protection of my family and friends. One of the shootings took place around the corner from my parents home so it felt very close to home. As I began to slightly worry about the “would’ve and could’ve” thoughts, I began to remember what God said in his word regarding divine protection.

As usual when my mind wonders off a little too much I  searched on my trusted Google app to ask what the bible says regarding a particular subject, in this case protection from evil. Immediately I felt at ease because the word of God brings peace to everything. I noticed that those subtle feelings of fear immediate faded as I read  scriptures such as 2nd Thessalonians 3:3, 2nd Samuel 22:3-4, Isaiah 54:17, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 91, Psalm 121:7-8, Psalm 138:7 and Romans 8:28.

What these scriptures reminded me is that God is a keeper of his promises and that he will protect us even if this world is experiencing a hike in violence. I was also reminded of those times when I was in life threatening danger and provision was made for me to not reap the consequence of injury or death. These scriptures remind us of God’s faithfulness to his people during times of trouble. I trust that God will protect those that I love; offering them wisdom and guidance to discern as they go throughout their days.

Learning to lean on God and his word during times I don’t understand.

I’ve also provided two of Psalms below that were mentioned in my posting.

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God (Psalm 91)

91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler[a]
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

(Psalm 121)

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Mother’s Day Weekend 2016

I had an absolute blast this weekend! It’s funny because I didn’t do anything spectacular. My boyfriend,daughter and I spent time together as usual and he treated me to a beautiful dinner. I spent a couple hours with my parents also. What made this weekend particularly special is the presence of my daughter, Lauren. Saturday morning Lauren came  to me and said the most beautiful words to me , “mama” and “thank you”. She has said the word mama before but not directly speaking and directing her attention to me. She wanted me to open her applesauce, I did, and she said thank you” (the small things).

I remember when Lauren was a lot smaller and me being eager to hear those words. As demanding as babies are, I think you naturally what to hear a thank you every now and again. To feel appreciated and acknowledge for the hard work I do makes me feel good and that it matters. I also received a lot of phone calls, text and postings to my Facebook page acknowledge myself and other mothers.

I truly enjoyed this weekend. What a blessed weekend it was!

  Lauren changed my life almost two years ago. Her very being taught me the importance of knowing my worth and how important my relationship with God is. I am thankful to have such an intelligent and beautiful daughter. She makes my heart sing and my skin glow!
